I'm glad Bernie Ebbers got a 25-year sentence

Bernie Ebbers, Former CEO of WorldCom, was sentenced yesterday to 25 years in prison. The lede that was used in most papers was that Ebbers cried when the sentence was handed down. And people are questioning if his sentence was too harsh. I'm sorry, but I don't think so.

Ebbers left thousands of employees and investors crying because their savings were wiped out by a greedy criminal. As architect of an $11 billion fraud (THAT'S 11 BILLION!), he should have thought about how sad he would be for being a thief long before his sentencing. (I have a personal interest in corporate fraud, because my former employer, a multi-national insurance company, committed price fixing fraud that cut the value of my retirement fund by two-thirds overnight and stripped over $10 billion in market value from the company's investors. I'm eagerly awaiting the law suits and prosecutions. I hope the courts will use Bernie Ebbbers sentencing as a guideline for the leaders of my former company.)
