Naming our solar system's new planet: Let's call it Detroit
A new planet was discovered in our solar system, orbiting the Sun 36 times farther out than Earth. The planet, currently called 2003UB313, is said to be approximately one to two times the size of Pluto. Basically, it's the size of a rock in my back yard. But that's not what intrigues me.I'd like to start a campaign to name our solar system's newest planet. And the name is already embedded in it. I would like to see the new planet's be DETROIT. C'mon, Detroit isn't such a bad name. Hell, we have a planet that makes children (and even some astronomers) snicker each time they pronounce it. And Detroit makes sense. Ever see the movie 8 Mile? There's this really cool scene, when the Eminem character wins a rap contest and everyone in the room starts chanting 3-1-3, 3-1-3. 313 is the area code for Detroit. And it's the code name for our new planet - UB313. So, let's start calling our new planet by its proper name: DETROIT.
DETROIT|UB313.
The heck with that Greek/Roman gods naming convention. Let's call our new planet DETROIT.
